Buffalo hunting is a very rare opportunity and the tips and techniques fueling one's success as a hunter is gathered in one small window of time. Consequently, few private, unguided hunters rarely are able gather enough information to have a complete understanding of behavior in the field. Observations I am sharing with you are from observing wild herds of buffalo in the field and staging hunting opportunities from spot and stalk techniques. By the time our trip had concluded, we scouted a large portion of available property including gaining access to the majority of private lands in the region. By the time our trip concluded, we had 6-8 separate spot and stalk scenarios play out, the closest being within 35 yards. Our grand total of buffalo we had eyes on numbered conservatively in the 300 range. When the total herd population tops off at around 500, I would say we
did all right.
